Let's get political, political!

Guess who?

Yeah, its Michelle Obama. Betsey designed this dress for her to wear to inauguration last year.

What do ya think about it?

Personally, I think its a bit too colorful, but you know how Betsey is--just colorful.

Faster you SHOULD RUN--into Janelle's arms.

Okay I'm not blabbing about clothes today. And because I've listened to Janelle Monae's album non-stop since it came out, I figured I'd do a review.

This is my personal review of the MAY 18th release of
Janelle Monae's album: The ArchAndroid.

Now her previous album, Metropolis: The Chase Suite, didn't feel as much like a soundtrack as this one. What I liked most about this album is it's connectivity and the way each song rolls into the next, and helps convey the love story between her fictitious character, Cindi Mayweather (the android Monae portrays herself as on the cover of Metropolis), and her human love interest.

As with ANY album, you're not going to love every song immensely. This album has tracks that can make you cry, dance, laugh, and some of them you'll just be like what the ef? Overall, if you appreciate true artistry--I would suggest it as a great purchase.

Monae invites you in to her world with the cool melody of Dance or Die this track is dope--definitely. I love the line: "Protect the mind from degradation//sew in the seeds of education."

The energetic "Faster," is my favorite! She says, "Faster, Faster I should run// Faster, Faster from your arms" in the chorus. My fave line is: "We've been like magnets in our play//we smash and then pull away, everyday." This song is so relatable to any girl whose ever had a seemingly unattainable crush.

The stoner Jam (in my opinion) "Mushrooms and Roses" is pretty captivating.

The jazz tune "BaBopByeYa," makes me want to throw on my character shoes and break out in a dance number--loves it.

"Tightrope" is awesome, super groovy. Feat. Big Boy too. ::big ups::

"57821" is a dreamy love song; her harmonious sounds with
Deep Cotton are relaxing.

"Coldwar" is teeming with political innuendos. My fave line: If you wanna be free// below the grounds the only place to be// cause in this life//you spend time runnin from depravity.

"Sir Greendown" is kind of a stoner track too. Dedicated to Cindi's human infatuation: Anthony Greendown.

LOVED "Neon Valley Street" it starts slow, but--she raps!!

WEIRD TRACKS:

NEON GUMBO- completely eerie and creepy. but strangely intriguing.

MAKE THE BUS (Feat. of Montreal)- sheer ANNOYANCE. ugh.

WONDALAND- maybe Christmas time or something. maybe.

bottom line: IF YOU LOVE MUSIC AND UNIQUENESS: COP IT!

IF YOU DON'T, STAY LAME! jp.

Go SHORTY, GO SHORTY SHORTY GO!

Colorful, fun socks have always been able to brighten my day :)

Leave it to Betsey to make these fun-filled "shorty" socks. I'm gonna get some so I can wear them to tap class, and the little eyes can peek out over my tap shoes. (SEXY?) Totally, I know.

Pssssst....Guy's really do love BJ!

Ok. I'm breaking down...AGAIN.

I wanted this shirt long ago but I was just afraid of what my parentals would say about the pun: Guy's ♥ BJ. But you know what--screw it--I'm old enough to make my own decisions, and I mean its only a shirt.....right? LOL.

I saw the new one in the store today and its turquoise with pink accents. Next paycheck, it's mine.

(Shhh...I'm gonna hide it in my footlocker while staying with mom for the summer)

JP.

xox,

A Rockette? Wow.

I found this little Betsey Interview: Enjoy!

**The Fashion Informer’s Lauren David Peden caught up with the effervescent grandmother of two on the eve of her New York Fashion Week Spring 2009 show to dish on her childhood dreams, favorite movies and vegetable-induced crying jags.**

What is your favorite time of day (and why)?

7:30 in the morning when I run downstairs to visit my two granddaughters.
What's in current rotation on your iPod?

I don’t use an iPod. I threw three of them out the window and don’t have one now. It’s a shame. Maybe in my next life I’ll use one.

You consistently play some the best fashion show music I've ever heard; how do you choose which songs to include in a show?

We work with a great DJ, Rene Goulet, and it’s a fun collaboration that revolves around the theme of each show. He leads the way and I throw some favorites and oldies in there.

When you were 9 years old, what did you want to be when you grew up?

A Rockette.

What's your favorite movie of all time?

“The Women” for the fashion, “Blade Runner” for the early futurist, “Easy Rider” because the girls wore my clothes in it. Anything with Cary Grant and Brigitte Bardot.

What is your idea of a perfect meal?

Fresh fish.

You celebrated your 40th anniversary in the business last month (August); what one piece of advice would you impart to your younger self if you had the chance?

Always stick to your guns no matter what.

Tell me about your pet(s).

Lucy’s like my little girlfriend. She’s the friendliest, sweetest Maltese you’ll ever meet.

What's the best thing about being a grandma?

Seeing the grandkids every day.

What would you like to be doing if you weren't a designer?

A Rockette, an interior decorator or a florist.

Beverage of choice?

Champagne.

Brunch: pro or con?

I never eat brunch.

If you found $15,000 cash in a brown paper bag, how would you spend it?

I’d give it to my favorite breast cancer charity, the NBCFF.

What never fails to make you cry?

When I cut onions.

When are you happiest?

When I’m with my lover, and when I’m with my family.

Interview Source: The Fashion Informer

So what stood out to me the most about this interview was the fact that...

WOW--She wanted to be a rockette?!

What are Rockettes?

Precision dance company based in Manhattan, NY.

She goes so hard.

Here is Betsey about to do her cartwheel at the SPRING 2010 collection release.

I mean really though, what other designer do you know that goes this hard?

Betsey is such a G, I mean she has such youthful, high energy.

--I LOVE IT. ♥

xox,

Denia.

Wedges--the ones you can depend on.

So, I decided I can mess with these--they're mad cute. I NEED them in my closet this spring. I'm gonna be interning with Creative Loafing this summer and I think wedges would be cool and edgy to wear with an outfit when I'mm feeling in the "mood for heels."

I'm thinking about wearin em with this cute little dress:

Or maybe with this lil top and some denim or gray skinnys...

Alright, now I'm gonna kill ya.....

You can get them for a whopping $215, but hey I think they're worth it. I'm working like a slave this summer anyway...(trying to save for a car)
